Inauguration of training programme on KOHA by Information Minister

H.E. Hasanul Haq Inu, M.P., Honourable Minister, Ministry of Information, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh inaugurated the 5 day long training course on Open Source Integrated Library System (ILS) KOHA  jointly organised by BALID Institute of Information Management (BIIM), Bangladesh Association of Librarians, Information Scientists and Documentalists(BALID) in collaboration wirh North South University (NSU) on 3 September 2013 at NSU Syndicate Hall.
 
Professor Amin U. Sarkar, Vice- Chancellor of NSU spoke on the occasion as Special Guest and Professor ANM Meshquat Uddin, Pro-Vice Chancellor of NSU as guest of honour. NSU Librarian Dr. Md. Mostafizur Rahman gave welcome speech and Dr. Mirza Mohd Rezaul Islam, Chairman, BALID and BIIM chaired the programme. Mr. Md. Shamsuddin Ahmed, Director, BIIM, BALID gave vote of thanks at the end of the programme. NSU faculties, library professionals and participants of the training programme attended at the inaugural ceremony.

Inaugural Ceremony of training programme on KOHA

BALID Institute of Information Management (BIIM), a sister concern of Bangladesh Association of Librarians, Information Scientists and Documentalists is going to organize a five day long training program from Tuesday, 3 September to Saturday, 7 September 2013 at E-resource Access Center, North South University Library, Block B, Bashundhara, Dhaka. Inaugural session will be held on Tuesday, 3 September 2013 at 3:45 pm in the mentioned venue.

H.E. Hasanul Haq Inu, M.P., Honourable Minister, Ministry of Information, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh has kindly consented to be the Chief Guest.

BALID Members Database: request for updated information

BALID is almost half way to launch an interactive member database. This would be a great asset to the Association. To collect the most updated data and photographs of the members, as well as keep the data error rate minimized, BALID is looking for your kind assistance. In this connection, the Existing BALID members’ are requested to update respective information in the Online formThe deadline is Monday, 30 September 2013.
 
The database development will be completed in two phases. First phase: development of the database (Beta version is done), collection of updated data from the members, and migrate the collected data to the database with photographs. Second phase: Members will able to search the entire database, and will have access to modify own profile. The collected data and photographs will be migrated to the main database by the developer team. The database will be accessible through the BALID website.
 
Potential BALID members are requested to explore BALID membership page in details. The prescribed Membership application form is writable before print.

First Meeting of BALID Seminar Committee

The first meeting of BALID Seminar Committee will be held on 15 August 2013, Thursday at 4.00 p.m. at the Community Development Library (CDL), House no.: 67/B (2nd floor), Road: 9/A, Dhanmondi, Dhaka-1209.
Following agenda will be disscussed in the meeting:
1.   Formation of Seminar Operations Committee, Event Management Committee, Food Committee, and Selection of Rapporteur, etc.  
2.   Other issues of the seminar
3.   Miscellaneous 
 
All the members of the committee are requested to attend at the meeting.

Discussion on Strategic Plan of BALID - 20 July 2013

BALID organized a roundtable discussion on its 5 Years Strategic Plan (2014-2018) on 20 July 2013 at Arts Building Conference Room, Dhaka University.  The former Chairman of BALID and IUB Librarian Muhammad Hossam Haider Chowdhury presented the key-note paper on Strategic Plan. Atiar Rahman, Vice Chairman, Faradul Islam Farid, Secretary General and Md. Humayun Kabir, Finance Secretary of BALID also proposed a number of plans. In his speech, Shyama Prasad Bepari, Joint Secretary, MoICT, GoB assured BALID to provide all kinds of support from the part of Government. Most of the participants took part in the open discussion.
Apart from others, Professor Dr. M. Abdussattar, Md. Harun-or-Rashid, Mrs Khaleda Akter, Dr. S M Zabed Ahmed, S M Shamsuzzaman, Dr. Nikhil Chandra Sarker, Dr. Md Nazim Uddin, Prof. Dr. Mezbah-ul-Islam, Md. Moniruzzaman, Dr. Mostafizur Rahman, Md. Zafar Iqbal and Ms. Hazera Rahaman spoke in the discussion programme. Ms. Dilara Begum, Acting Presdent of LAB was also present at the programme. An Iftar party was also arranged in the honour of the professionals. More than 50 professionals took part in the programme. The roundtable discussion was presided over by BALID Chairman Dr Mirza Rezaul Islam.
