Discussion Meeting on ‘Community Library O Milon Kendra’ and Iftar - 29 June 2016

Bangladesh Association of Librarians, Information Scientists and Documentalists (BALID) arranged a Discussion Meeting on ‘Community Library O Milon Kendra’ on Wednesday the 29 June 2016 at 5.00 pm at Arts Faculty Conference Hall of Dhaka University followed by an Iftar.
 
Mr. Kabir Bin Anwar, Additional Secretary, Director General (Admin.) and Project Director (A2i) of Prime Minister’s Office of Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was the Chief Guest of the Discussion Meeting.
 
Mr. Shyama Prasad Bepari, Joint Secretary & Project Director, Higher Secondary Stipend Project, Ministry of Education, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and  Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mezbah-ul-Islam, Chairman, Department of Information Science and Library Management, University of Dhaka were present as the Special Guests.
 
Dr. Md. Mostafizur Rahman, Chairman, BALID and BIIM Chaired the Discussion meeting.
 
Ms Hazera Rahman, Deputy Librarian, Southeast University and Vice Chairman, BALID presented the keynote paper entitled ‘Model Community Library O Milon Kendra’.
 
Among others Mr. Sasanka Kumar Singha, Secretary General, BALID gave the welcome address, Ms Nomita Akhtar Mukti, Vice Chairman, BALID presented and moderated the programs and Mr. Shamsuddin Ahmed, Director, BALID Institute of Information Management (BIIM) gave the vote of thanks.
 
Prof. Minhaj Uddin Ahmed of Daffodil University, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mezbah-ul-Islam, Chairman, Department of Information Science and Library Management, University of Dhaka and Dr. Mirza Md. Rezaul Islam Immediate Past Chairman of BALID were the discussants of the meeting.
 
The core idea of the paper, the ‘Model Community Library O Milon Kendra’ is to inspire the projection of the local community development to keep pace with globalization as well as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The Chief Guest, Mr. Kabir Bin Anwar has assured for extensive cooperation to relevant project regarding this concept associated by BALID which will boost the socio-economic conditions of rural community.
 
A total of seventy library and IT professionals from various renowned organizations and universities took part in this discussion meeting followed by Iftar Mahfil.
