Day long national seminar on ‘Cross-Talk of Digital Resources Management: step towards digital Bangladesh’ held at CICC - 22 August 2015
A Day long national seminar on “Cross-Talk of Digital Resources Management: step towards digital Bangladesh” organized by Bangladesh Association of Librarians, Information Scientists and Documentalists (BALID) was held at CIRDAP International Conference Center (CICC), Chameli House, 17 Topkhana Road, Dhaka-1000 on Saturday, 22 August 2015 in collaboration with Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP).
H.E Mr. Imran Ahmad, M.P., Honorable Chairman, Standing Committee on the Ministry of Post and Telecommunication and Information Technology, Bangladesh Parliament graced the Inaugural Ceremony of this day-long seminar as the Chief Guest while H.E Ms Akhtar Jahan, M.P., Member, Standing Committee on the Ministry of Finance was the Special Guest of the event. Among others Mr. Sasanka Kumar Singha, Secretary General, BALID deliver the welcome address and Dr. Md. Nazim Uddin, Convener of the Seminar offered the vote of thanks Dr. Mirza Mohd. Rezaul Islam, Chairman, BALID and BIIM chaired the inaugural ceremony.
Two keynote papers namely ‘Cross-talk on digital resource management’ by Dr. Mostafizur Rahman, AIM Jakaria Rahman and Muhammad Hossam Haider Chowdhury and Model Community Library O Milon kendro by Hazera Rahman were presented in the inaugural session. Eight papers on the digital resource management of the eight leadings libraries were presented in the technical sessions. Papers on ‘Open source software in libraries’ was also presented.
The Chairpersons of the technical sessions were Professor Dr. M. Kaykobad, Dept. of CSE, BUET, Mr. Ashish Kumar Sarker, DG, (Additional Secretary) Dept. of Public Library, Prof. Dr. Md. Nasir Uddin, Dept. of ISLM, National University and Mr. Minhaj Uddin Ahmed, Director, CIS,B. A Plenary/Recommendation session was held at the end of the technical sessions chaired by Dr. Mirza Mohd. Rezaul Islam and Mr. Shyama Prasad Bepari, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Education and Prof. Dr. Abdus Sattar, Controller of Examinations, UITS were the discussants of this session. A three member team of rapporteurs coordinated by Mr. Md. Moniruzzaman worked for reporting on the seminar and preparing recommendation.
Around 180 participants in the field of Information Science and Library Management from 110 renowned organizations and universities took part in this seminar. The main purpose of this seminar was to encounter the challenge of digital resource management in Bangladesh and to enable the participants to become aware of existing practice of digital resource management system.
