Introduction:
A thesaurus is a lexicon of vocabularies in which words are arranged in groups that have the same, similar, or related meanings. It helps to understand the structure of the controlled vocabulary that is vital for the information processing. Attending the workshop, the participants will be able to get instant methodological advice in function of the future need. The Trainees will be able to draw a given field of knowledge, ascertain a vocabulary for own library, index documents properly, retrieve information manually and electronically, and help in exhaustion search etc. 

The benefits of the Workshop:
a) The trainees will be able to draw a map of a given field of knowledge,
b) They will be able to ascertain a standard vocabulary for their own libraries,
c) They will develop the capacity to choose the correct term for a subject, can locate new concepts. For Information processing thesaurus is an important tool.
d) They will be able to index a document properly and permit them in easy searching,  
e) It will help information users and workers to retrieve  relevant information both manually and electronically
f) Thesaurus held in machine readable form may be consulted through on-line information service, thus ensuring exhaustive search and minimizing time 
g) Last but not the least participants will be able to identify main sources for term collection and develop his/her own thesaurus   

Programme:
Theoretical session:
Introduction to thesaurus, functions of thesaurus, construction of   thesaurus, familiar with different thesauri like AGROVOC, Me-SH, Macro-thesaurus, TEST etc   Practical session: A hands-on approach including exercises on indexing using thesauruswill enable participants to have the opportunity to work with their own library view.
