As a part of regular programme, BALID Institute of Information Management (BIIM), a sister concern of Bangladesh Association of Librarians, Information Scientists and Documentalists (BALID) organized a Lecture on Bibliometrics in collaboration with University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) on 27 April 2013 at ULAB Seminar Room. Around 60 professionals from different institutions took part in the programme.

Professor Imran Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of ULAB graced the inaugural session as Chief Guest while Dr. Mirza Mohd. Rezaul Islam, Chairman, BALID and BIIM presided over the session.  Dr. SM Zabed Ahmed, Professor and Chairman of the Dept. of Information Science and Library Management, University of Dhaka & Librarian, DU Library spoke as special guest. Mr. Kazi Ali Reza, Officer-in-Charge, UNIC Dhaka also spoke on the session.

Dr. SM Zabed Ahmed delivered his key note presentation on Bibliometrics. At the end of the programme, Dr. Md. Nazim Uddin, Senior Manager, Library and Information Service Section of icddr,b shared his experience on bibliometrics services provided by icddr,b.

Bangladesh Association of Librarians, Information Scientists and Documentalists (BALID) has formally presented a concept paper at the Prime Minister’s Office for establishment of a Knowledge Commission of Bangladesh. The paper was prepared in response to a request from Access to Information (A2I) Project of Prime Minister’s Office.

On behalf of BALID the concept paper was jointly presented by BALID Councilor and Librarian of IUB Mr. Hossam Haider Chowdhury and Dr Mostafizur Rahman, Librarian, North South University. The session was moderated by Mr. Anir Chowdhury, Policy Advisor (Access to Information Program), Prime Minister’s Office. The session was graced by the attendance of veteran library and information professionals of the country and high officials of A2I Program. The Library Association of Bangladesh (LAB) was also represented by their acting president, secretary general, and vice-president.

The training program of BIIM titled "EndNote: reference management software" is going to be held at ICDDR,B on 19 April 2013. Several requests from many persons is being received to take part in this program.

But, as the seats are limited to 18 participants only, BALID and BIIM apologize to accommodate anymore participants during this time. However, it will definitely be taken under consideration to comply with the requests by arranging the same training program on the same issue once again if the number of participants meets the quorum.
