Bangladesh Association of Librarians, Information Scientists and Documentalists (BALID) is a national association of librarians, information scientists and teachers of information science and library management. It is the only full-fledged professional body in Bangladesh in the field of library and information management. The mission of BALID is to modernize the library and information profession and to uphold the interest of the professionals in Bangladesh. First Meeting of BALID Seminar Committee

The first meeting of BALID Seminar Committee will be held on 15 August 2013, Thursday at 4.00 p.m. at the Community Development Library (CDL), House no.: 67/B (2nd floor), Road: 9/A, Dhanmondi, Dhaka-1209.
Following agenda will be disscussed in the meeting:
1.   Formation of Seminar Operations Committee, Event Management Committee, Food Committee, and Selection of Rapporteur, etc.  
2.   Other issues of the seminar
3.   Miscellaneous

Discussion on Strategic Plan of BALID - 20 July 2013

BALID organized a roundtable discussion on its 5 Years Strategic Plan (2014-2018) on 20 July 2013 at Arts Building Conference Room, Dhaka University.  The former Chairman of BALID and IUB Librarian Muhammad Hossam Haider Chowdhury presented the key-note paper on Strategic Plan. Atiar Rahman, Vice Chairman, Faradul Islam Farid, Secretary General and Md. Humayun Kabir, Finance Secretary of BALID also proposed a number of plans. In his speech, Shyama Prasad Bepari, Joint Secretary, MoICT, GoB assured BALID to provide all kinds of support from the part of Government. Most of the participants took part in the open discussion.

Training on "MARC21" held at icddr,b - 5 & 7 July 2013

BALID Institute of Information Management (BIIM), a sister concern of Bangladesh Association of Librarians, Information Scientists and Documentalists (BALID) organized two day-long training programme on MARC21 during 5 & 7 July 2013 at icddr,b. Mr. Md. Zahid Hasan Shoeb and Mr. Nur Ahammed were the resource person the programme. At the end of the training programme, certificates were distributed among the participants by Md. Harun-or-Rashid on 5 July 2013 and Professor M. Abdussattar on 7 July 2013 where BALID and BIIM Chairman Dr. Mirza Mohd. Rezaul Islam was also present. A total number of 40 participant from different organizations of the country attended the training through online registration.

Lecture on "Information Literacy and Advocacy: narrowing knowledge gap" held at ULAB Seminar Room - 6 July 2013

BALID Institute of Information Management (BIIM), a sister concern of Bangladesh Association of Librarians, Information Scientists and Documentalists (BALID) organized a lecture series on Information Literacy and Advocacy: narrowing knowledge gap in collaboration with University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) during 6 July 2013. Professor Jahirul Haque, Pro Vice Chancellor of ULAB inaugurated the lecture session as chief guest where Mr. Mahmud Hassan, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Communication, GoB and Mr. Kazi Ali Reza, Officer-in-Charge, UNIC Dhaka spoke as special guest. Mr. Mirza Mohd. Rezaul Islam, Chairman, BALID & BIIM chair the session. Mr. Kazi Ali Reza. OIC, UNIC Dhaka, Minhaj Uddin Ahmed, Director (Technical), Centre for Information Studies, Bangladesh (CIS,B), Prof. PhD M. Mezbah-ul-Islam, ISLM, DU, M. Announcement: Urgent notice for the training programme on "MARC21"

This is an announcement for all concerned that the venue and date of the training on MARC21 have been changed due to an unavoidable circumstance. The new venue of the said training is icddr,b and date is 5 July and 7 July 2013.
The training will be in two batches. The first batch will be on 5 July and the second batch on 7 July 2013 at 8-30 am remaining all other program unchanged. The participants will be individually informed their batch no and other details immediately. All concerned are, therefore, kindly requested to duly join the training according to the new schedule
