Bangladesh Association of Librarians, Information Scientists and Documentalists (BALID) is a national association of librarians, information scientists and teachers of information science and library management. It is the only full-fledged professional body in Bangladesh in the field of library and information management. The mission of BALID is to modernize the library and information profession and to uphold the interest of the professionals in Bangladesh. BALID believes that access to information; intellectual freedom and knowledge based society are the key components of development.

Mailing List

The BALID mailing list stimulates discussion among its members. It facilitates resource sharing, communication, research, and community building.  The intention is to maximize the effectiveness of e-mail-based information dissemination to the entire community. Every message sent to the list is distributed to all the members. Replies to individual messages are also distributed to all the members just like the initial post. Thus, members can discuss in an organized, fast and convenient way. The mailing list is a “closed list”, only subscribers can post to the list. This prevents unwanted posting of spam messages to the list.

BALID members can subscribe the mailing list. Please mention full name, designation, organization name and BALID membership number in the subscription request.

A Five-day Training Course on Koha organized by BIIM, BALID

A five-day training course on open-source Integrated Library System "Koha" organized by BALID Institute of Information Management (BIIM) – a sister concern of Bangladesh Association of Librarians, Information Scientists and Documentalists (BALID) held at North South University (NSU) Library from 3 to 7 September 2013. A certificate awarding ceremony was arranged on 7 September 2013. Professor M Imtiaz Hossain, Vice-Chancellor, Islamic University of Technology was the chief guest while Professor Miftahur Rahman, Dean, School of Engineering and Applied Science, NSU, was present as special guest. Dr. Md. Mostafizur Rahman, University Librarian of NSU spoke on the occasion as the Guest of Honour. BALID and BIIM Chairman Dr. Mirza Mohd. Rezaul Islam chaired the session. Welcome address was given by the BALID Secretary General Mr. Faradul Islam Farid while vote of thanks was given by Mr. Md. Shamsuddin Ahmed, Director, BIIM.

Inauguration of training programme on KOHA by Information Minister

H.E. Hasanul Haq Inu, M.P., Honourable Minister, Ministry of Information, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh inaugurated the 5 day long training course on Open Source Integrated Library System (ILS) KOHA  jointly organised by BALID Institute of Information Management (BIIM), Bangladesh Association of Librarians, Information Scientists and Documentalists(BALID) in collaboration wirh North South University (NSU) on 3 September 2013 at NSU Syndicate Hall.
 

Inaugural Ceremony of training programme on KOHA

BALID Institute of Information Management (BIIM), a sister concern of Bangladesh Association of Librarians, Information Scientists and Documentalists is going to organize a five day long training program from Tuesday, 3 September to Saturday, 7 September 2013 at E-resource Access Center, North South University Library, Block B, Bashundhara, Dhaka. Inaugural session will be held on Tuesday, 3 September 2013 at 3:45 pm in the mentioned venue.

H.E. Hasanul Haq Inu, M.P., Honourable Minister, Ministry of Information, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh has kindly consented to be the Chief Guest.

BALID is almost half way to launch an interactive member database. This would be a great asset to the Association.
